I’m Angie Bird. A graduate of RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia where I studied both copywriting and art direction (majoring in art direction).
In 2005, I won the MADC Student of the Year award. In 2006, myself and the talented Elle Bullen won Young Guns Students of the Year, which earned us an internship at any Leo Burnett office in the world. We decided on Toronto as there wasn’t an agency in the Bahamas. A three-month internship quickly turned into more than four years of inspiring opportunities and awards.
After leaving Leo I jumped into the freelance world. This gave me the opportunity to work on building my directing reel and sharpen my skills as a photographer. During that time I shot photos for TIFF, She Does The City, Extra, plus local and international bands and private events.
In 2012 I signed up for a unique opportunity with Bensimon Byrne where I not only got to conceptualize the ads — but also direct them. I first shot TV ads for Tennis Canada and then moved to President’s Choice Black Label. The Black Label spots were originally meant for web but since Mr. Gaylen Westin liked them so much, he put them on TV and ordered 30 new videos. We were more than happy to oblige.
Besides all that work stuff, I really love to travel, shoot film and watch Oprah. You should also know that I recently met Oprah, which allowed me to check “Life Goal #4” off the list.
